Hole 1 Swein

Named after: Lord Swein, the first recorded owner of Melton Manner (1042) and the last Saxon Lord of Sprotbrough.


Pro-Tip: If you are long enough try and aim for the left side of the green, as the green runs left to the right.

Named after: The lord of Tickhill, Roger De-Busli who was awarded Melton for helping William the Conqueror in 1066.


Pro-Tip: From the tee use a long iron to the corner of the dog leg, a mid-iron leaves an easy pitch to the green.

Hole 2 De-Busli
Hole 2 - De-Busli

Par: 4

Named after: Phillipa De-Tilli who built St. James' Church in 1153.


Pro-Tip: Long drive needed, favouring the right hand side of the fair way. This will allow you to use a short to mid iron to overcome the three trees on your approach to the green.

Hole 3 - De-Tilli

Par: 4

Named after: Sir William-de-St. George (1270).


Pro-Tip: Risk reward. The longer hitters can go for the green. However, to escape a big number on your card a mid iron will ensure a safer approach.

Hole 4 - St. George

Par: 4

Named after: The Bosville family (1300 - 1400) who had the estate for many generations. Melton Manor was valued at £13.


Pro-Tip: A mid to long iron off the tee will allow you to use a short iron to get enough height to stop the ball on this narrow green.

Hole 5 - Bosville

Par: 3

Named after: The Syward family who had owned land in Melton as far back as the fifteenth century & during the reign of Henry VI (1422-1426).


Pro-Tip: Height off the tee is required to keep the ball on the green.

Hole 6 - Syward

Par: 3

Named after: Dr Levitt, who is reputed to have lost Melton Hall after a gambling session and had to move his wife and seven children out.


Pro-Tip: This hole plays 1-2 club lengths longer than you think.

Hole 7 - Levitt

Par: 3

Named after: The Fountayne family. In 1709, John Fountayne inherited Melton Hall when he was only 24 and had it for 63 years. He redesigned and extended the Hall and renovated St. James' Church.


Pro-Tip: A short par 3, beware of the two bunkers short of the green as they are not visible from the tree.

Hole 8 - Fountayne

Par: 4

Named after: The Montague family (1853). The Fountayne family changed their name to Montague through inheriting other properties. Captain Montague (Captain of the Res. of Officers and Lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards) was the last Lord of the Manor in 1929.


Pro-Tip: Aim for the right hand side of the green to avoid the trees.
